Charlene Lichtenstein
Madam Lichtenstein's skills run in the family. Her great aunt, Etta Weimar, was the famous Romanian card reader to both kings and queens. A native of New York City, Lichtenstein was educated in Europe where she pursued the study of tarot and astrology. She returned to New York in 1974 and has lived in Greenwich Village ever since, dispensing advice whether requested or not. Lichtenstein's monthly and weekly astrology columns are carried in newspapers across the country. When not writing or working on her Web site, AccessNewAge.com/zscope, Lichtenstein offers private consultation. She is a member of the National Council of Geocosmic Research and often lectures on both astrology and tarot. Wondering how Mercury in retrograde affects your day-to-day life? What eclipses means for you and your loved ones? How to get in touch with your rising sign?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Welcome to Starry Eye Astrology. I’m Charlene Lichtenstein, your online celestial seer, ready to answer your questions and engage everyone in a no holds barred discussion about astrology and the new age. I have been writing monthly and weekly horoscopes for publications around the world since 1989. My monthly columns can be found on www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope

Starbite of the week:
Now that the presidential candidates are about to choose their vp running mates, we should pay very close attention to the results. In a fascinating article titled “A View of the Presidential Candidates through Hindu and Western Astrology” (June/July issue of The Mountain Astrologer) James Braha writes that whoever wins the presidency in 2000 is unlikely to finish out his full term because of the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in a tropical earth sign in this election year. Every president elected during a Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in earth, died in office. Notably, Reagan, who was elected during a Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in an air sign (Libra), was fortunate to survive an assassination attempt.

President elected died Jupiter-Saturn conjunction
Harrison 1840 1841 Capricorn
Lincoln 1860 1865 Virgo
Garfield 1880 1881 Taurus
McKinley 1900 1901 Capricorn
Harding 1920 1923 Virgo
Roosevelt 1940 1945 Taurus
Kennedy 1960 1963 Capricorn
Reagan 1980 Libra – not an earth sign

And now, let’s have a look at your questions for tonight…..

Maryland: Were you aware that St. Augustine abandoned his belief in astrology
after finding that a slave and a free man born at the same time
had different fates?

Were you also aware that the Bible (Isaiah 47:13-14) condemns astrology,
saying astrologers will be "burned"?

How then can a Jew or Christian believe in astrology and God at
the same time?

Charlene Lichtenstein: It's going to be an interesting night.....

Was the slave born at the exact same time at the exact same place as the free man? If not, they would havce different horoscopes.

For the rest of your comments (I don't think you menat them as questions...) I would first like to requote myself from the intro to my December 20 show:

“Christmas is almost here! The role of astrology in Christian theology is hotly debated with each side finding evidence of their respective positions within the bible itself. In an interesting article, “The Star of Bethlehem” by Craig Chester (from Imprimis, the monthly journal of Hillsdale College), it is said that the Magi (court astrologers) recognized a remarkable series of astrological conjunctions at the time of Jesus’ birth that predicted an extraordinary birth of a king as described in the Book of Revelations. There were a series of conjunctions involving Jupiter, the last which resulted in an rare spectacle of two exceptionally bright planets, (Jupiter and Venus) so closely aligned that they appeared to be touching. The Magi might have read this as an announcement of the impending birth of a great king of Israel. Is it possible that the “Star of Bethlehem” was Jupiter stationing on December 25, 2 b.c. after it’s retrograde? The impact of astrology on the Revelations is certain to spark a lively debate. I invite further discussion on this from the cyber community as well as your other questions. Merry Christmas!”

In addition to the above old quote from me I would like to refer to Genesis 1:14 (King James version):
“And G-d said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.” Which only goes to show that the Bible often offers insights into both sides of an argument and that is why one can be religious and believe in astrology too.

The Kaballah (The books of Jewish mysticism) contains quite a bit of astrology by the way.

Does that address your comments?

Somewhere, USA: Last week you said:

Identical twins raised apart often exhibit extraordinary similarities
despite being raised in two very different environments...
Oftentimes they will have gravitated to the same profession, for example.
Genetics can't predict what professions we gravitate to, but astrology does.

No geneticist would be so foolish as to predict that chromosomes can
predict the owner's future occupation, but neither can astrology!
Numerous studies, cited by Zusne and Jones in Anomalistic Psychology,
p. 219, show no correlation between any sign of the Zodiac and a
talent or profession or, for that matter, ANY predictive value
for astrology. Why do you continue to refer to unidentified studies
which, if they exist, are contradicted by the overwhelming majority
of the evidence?

Charlene Lichtenstein: I've never heard of the study you quote but I have read numerous articles in "The Mountain Astrologer" that cite astrology's predictability of profession. I'll try to get you some names, but I'm sure you will discredit them because they will be astrological studies.

Somewhere, USA: Dear Madame Lichtenstein; Could you answer my two questions for me?
They are: are celtic names also good for cats' sun signs?
And what's my cats' sun sign? She was born on either march 23rd, june 11th or
november 10th...
thanx for your wonderful site!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Thank you.
You must be referring to my pet horoscope page: www.AccessNewAge.com/petscope ---- Just for fun....

Your cat is either a Aries with lots of planets in Pisces (March 23), Gemini (June 11) or Scorpio (Nov 10). PLease read the pet personality characteristics on that site and see if one matches better than the others.

Hyderabad, India: Hi! I'm writing from India. My question is "Will I go to the United States of America for further studies?"
Please e-mail me the answer at -kausaralam-yahoo.com

Charlene Lichtenstein: Thank you for your question.
Vedic astrologers are excellent at predictive work. I use Western astrology which is less predictive and more theraputic. But, if you send me your birthdate, time and place, I will look at your chart and let you know what I see.

MD: Charlene,
I'm heartbroken. My boyfriend is a Cancer (July 10, 1972) and I'm a Saggitarius (Dec. 15, 1976). Isn't this year of the Dragon supposed to be a good one? Any insight (on getting back together)?

sad girl

Charlene Lichtenstein: Generally the year of the Dragon is a good one, but it also depends on what signs you and your boyfriend have.

Your boyfrined is the sign of the Rat (+ Water) while you are Dragon (+ Fire). You are the most righteous and competitive of all Dragons and you expect a lot from everyone. You have loads of energy but can be overbearing if you are not careful. You are an excellent match for the Rat.

Your boyfriend, like all Water Rats, is interested in mental exercise and the thinking process. He is accomodating, strategic and political but may speak without thinking which can get him into trouble.

In Western astrology, he is going through his Saturn Return so he may be in flux until he turns 30. Please refer to my explanation of the Saturn Return phase at www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope for more insight.
Give him time, stay in touch and try to be patient.

Washington D.C.: Will I every meet my spiritual soulmate?
My birthday is 4/10/61. Can you give me his initials?

Charlene Lichtenstein: Well I can't give you his initials, but I can see what type of person may be best suited for you.

You have sun in aries, moon in aquarius, mercury in pisces, venus in aries and mars in cancer. If I had your birthtime, I could see what sign is on the cusp of your 7th house of relationships.

You are a pioneering person both generally and in love. It's hot or it's not with you (venus in aries). Yet you can seem a little removed from the entire emotional scene (moon in aquarius) and may be more platonic than passionate. Do you mean to be?
When you argue, though, you can be very emotional (mars in cancer) and you are a sensitive thinker (mercury in pisces). This may send a conflicting signal - very emotional in all areas except love. If this is not the vibe you want to give, try to modify your emotional responses or become more romantic to partners.
And keep on looking - the only way to find your soulmate is to get out there and look!

Los Angeles: Hello! I wrote you recently about my being attracted to a Libra, which I never have been before; you requested his birthdate -- 10/20/69, Albany NY, time unknown -- to give more information. I'm a scorpio, Aries rising, moon in Virgo, Venus in Libra, sixth house, conjunct moon, semisquare neptune. (I have no idea what all this means!)

Charlene Lichtenstein: Thank you for keeping in touch. I wish I had your original birth information, but from what you sent me, this is what I see:

He has sun in libra, moon in aquarius, mercury in libra, venus in libra and mars in capricorn. Lots o'libra, lots o'air.

I think that you are being pulled by your venus (planet of love) in Libra to all his libra as well as his moon in airy aquarius. And, with aries rising, you have Libra on the cusp of your 7th house of partnerships - probably all of his libra planets are sitting in your house of marriage. No wonder! (and his moon in aquarius is in your house of friends. Is he also a good friend?).
Looks very good.

Alexandria, VA: Hi Charlene,
I'm the Capricorn (12/29/68) w/ the Aquarian boyfriend (02/16/66) who just moved to Alabama. I just came back from vacation w/ him (his invitation). He said he does not want to carry on a long distance relationship but he does not want "closure" either. My heart and head say he is my soulmate and it will all work out. Am I fooling myself? Your insight will be very valued. Also, I would like to quit my job at the end of the year and go to school full time. Would that be a good time for such a drastic change? Thanks.

Charlene Lichtenstein: No end but no closure? So is he suggesting that you move there??

He has sun in aquarius, moon in capricorn, mercury in pisces, venus in capricorn, mars in pisces. Capricorn energy lacks confidence so maybe he is afraid with moon (emotions) and venus (love) in cap that he will be alone if he ends it with you. Caps are also worried about being misled (no confidence) so maybe that is why he doesn't feel comfortable with a long distance relationship.

There is great connection between the two of you.
You: sun in cap, moon in taurus, mercury in cap, venus in aquarius, mars in libra. So you are not fooling yourslef but you must decide if you want to play the waiting game. I suggest that you hedge your bets. I believe that we often have several soulmates in one lifetime.

Education - without your birthtime, I'm not sure what sign is on the cusp of your career sector but, with Saturn moving into Gemini in August, there is nothing holding you back from positive chagne in your life. Saturn was in taurus for two years and you might have felt that you were slogging through mud sometimes. That barrier is down - full steam ahead.

Check your finances (that's my Virgo on the second house of money talking) to minimize your risk and, if you feel the time is right, pursue your dream. The path is clear.

Asheboro, NC: I was born September 29, 1976 at 9:30 p.m. Here's my question: I'm awaiting an important announcement that will drastically change my life. Do you see that I'll get the outcome I desire? Anything you can tell me would be helpful. Thanks.

Charlene Lichtenstein: If I were to try to answer this astrologically, I would need to have more information on the type of announcement you were expecting - in work? love? a birth? a prize? That impacts what area of your chart I would look at.

It also helps to have your birthplace and I'll generate your full chart on the computer. Please resend me your original question with the additional information and I'll check it in time for the next show.

My Magic 8 Ball says "Very Likely" however :-)

CA: Charlene, This Saturn Return means business. It's been a tough few months and I have a feeling it won't be over anytime soon (Cancer, 6/29/73). I too sadly lost a great relationship with someone lost & confused (8/29/72).

Should patience run for 3 years before any action is taken? Do those of us in this period lay "dormant" so to speak? Guidance is much appreciated.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Oh those frustrating Saturn Returns!
Yours will be over around May 2003 - more of less.

You can learn a great deal in these years - the patience I refer to is not to be dormant but to experience life and learn from it. Hibernating is not the way. Facing your struggles is the only way to learn from them and overcome them.

Action can be taken but it may still not get you what you want. But you will learn what works and what doesn't during this transit.

Hang in there and keep on trying! There are some small successes along the way too, you know. The big prize is waiting for you in 2003 and it will be extra delicious when you get it.

SPRINGFIELD MA 01108: WE ARE HOPING TO BUY A NEW HOME IN THE NEAR FUTURE.IT IS BEAUTIFUL BUT I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF IT'S THE RIGHT ONE FOR US AND THE RIGHT TIME.

Charlene Lichtenstein: PLease send me your birth date, time and place and I'll see if moving is in your future.

arlington, va: Charlene---

Lately, I seem to have been bit with bad vibes. I admit, I've been in a bad mood for about 1.5 months and see no end in sight. I figured that it was just a small period of blueness but alas, it's not ending. My dob is 6/16/70, female, born in Washington, DC and remember distinctly that my birthday horoscope this year said that this was going to be a good year. So far, it's been a real drag. Very frustrating. See any sign of change? We're talking all areas of my life!

Charlene Lichtenstein: I am sorry to hear that.
You have sun in gemini, moon in scorpio, mercury in gemini, venus in cancer and mars in cancer. If you could send me your birthtime, I could see what your ascendant is and what may be hitting more sensitive areas of your chart.

A couple of thoughts-
You are just getting out of your Saturn Return and this may be the last zetz before everything falls into place. I took me two months after I turned thirty before I felt better.

Also, we are going through three eclipses this July - 1 (cancer),16 (cap) and 31 (leo). Eclipses start about ten days before and last about 3 days after and are a very emotional time. Everything can stink... or seem to stink. Each one is aspecting your personal planets one way or another.

See if you feel better by early August.
Send me a message and let me know.

Anandale Virginia: Hello Madame Lichtenstein,
I was born 1 November 1950 exact time of birth not know somewhere close to midnight.
My husband was born 3 April 1940.
Do you see anything interesting on the horizon for us. I want to retire as soon as possible any hope for that?
Thank you so much.
C

Charlene Lichtenstein: Retire? Don't we all!

You have sun in scorpio, moon in cancer, mercury in scorpio, venus in scorpio and mars in sagittarius.

Your husband has sun in aries, moon in aquarius, mercury in pisces, venus in taurus, mars in gemini.

Saturn has just moved into gemini, affecting yours and welll as your husband's mars (actions and energies), which is good because the aspects are energetic ones - conjunction and opposition.

Pluto is currently in Sag (transformative changes) which also nicely hits both your mars. Your energies will have powerful and transforming changes. (But can be out of control if you are reckless....)

This is the time to turn on the juice. I would say that the possibilities are there. Plan your course carefully and wisely.

Fairfax, Va: Love your discussion!!!

My daughter was born on July 9, 1999 at 5:00am, and I would like some insight into her personality/character. Any areas of strength that I should keep an eye out for? Any weaknesses that I could look to help her overcome as she grows up?

Thanks!!!

Charlene Lichtenstein: Thank you.
I like to be very careful with children because we don't really want to push them in a certain direction - rather let them blossum on their own.

Your daughter has sun in cancer, moon in taurus, mercury in leo, venus in leo and mars in scorpio. I would have to run her chart on the pc to be sure about her rising sign.

Her planets indicate that she will have a warm, giving nature, generous in love and grand in gesture. A good mind and a love of family. Nurture her dreams, help her find her spirituality; it will be a source of learning for her.

I hope that helps.

Arlington, VA: Help!! Birthdate 4/01/61 NYC 6:14pm. I'm
feeling the changes -- what's going on --
and more importantly, what's in store??
Many thanks for your insight!

Charlene Lichtenstein: What type of changes?

You have sun in aries, moon in libra, mercury in pisces, venus in aries, mars in cancer. Probably Libra rising which may place gemini on the top of your chart - career. Saturn is entering gemini now - are you experiencing problems or frustrations on the job?

The latest July eclipse (16th) was in Capricorn which squared all your libra (on your personal house), cancer (career and friends) and aries (relationship) planets - stress! Are you still feel the after shocks of that?

Does this shed any light?
The emotional stuff is passing away as we speak but the Saturn transit is a couple of years. Learn and apply professionally.

Charlene Lichtenstein: Oh no! We have run out of time! Thank you for all your great questions and plese join me again next Monday at 7p. I will try to answer a few more of your questions from tonight then.

Until next Monday, happy stargazing!

Also - the August horoscope will be placed on my website ths week:
